Ensemble Expectations: · Be where you need to be, with what you need, when you need to be there! · Downbeat is given at 1:30 each day – We begin as a group. · Respect one another by listening to and supporting one another. · Be willing to take chances. Music doesn’t happen in a vacuum – Be ready to voice your opinions (& defend them, if you need to!)
· It is expected that you will strive to better your playing individually outside of class through weekly and consistent practice. Private lessons are encouraged for more focused instruction – If you do not currently study privately, see a director to make individual arrangements!
-Chamber music opportunities will be provided throughout the school year. Assignment to one of these groups will depend on student interest and ensemble needs. Chamber music performances will constitute part of the grade for the course.
· Performance at Solo & Ensemble Contest is also required! Everyone is also strongly encouraged to take a Solo in addition to their chamber ensemble. If you think this will be any problem, see a director today! Secure the date – Saturday, February 14th.
-Due to the percussion section for Concert Band meeting at a separate time, there will be additional after school rehearsals scheduled to rehearse as a full group. These rehearsals will always be posted on the website (prideofahs.com) as well as be posted on the bulletin board 2 weeks in advance.
-A list of mallets and sticks will be provided during Band Camp. Each student is expected to have his/her own set of mallets and sticks during class every day. Mallets and sticks for will not be provided for snare drum, marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, or orchestra bells.
Grading You will be awarded 100 pts. each week (20 pts. each day). Assigned:
50 pts. PARTICIPATION A. Cooperation B. Interest & Attitude C. Personal Accountability 1. Not putting chair or stand away = 20 points 2. Chewing gum = 20 points 3. Not putting instrument away = 20 points D. Attendance* 1. Regular Classes 2. Extra Rehearsals a. Excused absence = 10 points off (work may be made up) b. Unexcused absence = 10 points off (may not be made up) 3. Performances a. Excused absence = 20 points off (work may be made up) b. Unexcused absence = 20 points off (may not be made up) 4. Tardies a. 2 tardies = 20 points off b. Each additional tardy = 20 points off
A written note will be expected for all absences from performances and any questionable absences. These should be received one week prior to the event. If absence is excused, a project may be completed to make up some or all of the points off. If absence is unexcused, no make up is possible.
