Concert Band
In the May prior to the upcoming school year, every student auditions for one of two concert groups - Concert Band or Wind Ensemble. All Freshmen are placed into Concert Band unless they successfully audition for the AHS Wind Ensemble. The goals of the AHS Concert Band include building musicianship, fundamental skills, and performance techniques. The selection of music will be varied throughout the year. The AHS Concert Band presents several formal concerts each year in addition to the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Large Group Adjudicated Event.  The AHS Concert Band is taught jointly by Mr. Biederman and Mr. Galloway.

Ensemble Expectations:
· Be where you need to be, with what you need, when you need to be there!
· Downbeat is given at 12:35 each day – We begin as a group.
· Respect one another by listening to and supporting one another.
· Be willing to take chances. Music doesn’t happen in a vacuum – Be ready to voice your opinions (& defend them, if you need to!)

· It is expected that you will strive to better your playing individually outside of class through weekly and consistent practice.  Private lessons are encouraged for more focused instruction – If you do not currently study privately, see a director to make individual arrangements!

-Chamber music opportunities will be provided throughout the school year.  Assignment to one of these groups will depend on student interest and ensemble needs.  Chamber music performances will constitute part of the grade for the course.

· Performance at Solo & Ensemble Contest is also encouraged! Everyone is also strongly encouraged to take a Solo in addition to their chamber ensemble. If you think this will be any problem, see me today! Secure the date – Saturday, February 14th.

-Due to the percussion section meeting at a separate time, there will be addition after school rehearsals scheduled to rehearse as a full group.  These rehearsals will always be posted on the website (prideofahs.com) as well as be posted on the bulletin board 2 weeks in advance.
